Microsoft Sharepoint – Plenty of Benefits

Working together as a team using multiple Office documents and other resources can be tough.  I’ve seen lots of people trying to manage the flow of document changes using email and their favourite button“Reply All”.  I’ve been there too and battled with the problems this brings; lost email due to spam filters, multiple people making changes to the same document and that is just the beginning.

We started using Microsoft SharePoint to provide us with a team workspace to store our documents and track their changes. We opted for the cloud based SharePoint as part of the Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite, to avoid the IT administration and to make it easy for our remote workers to access documents, although SharePoint can also be installed and managed on internal systems. Integration with existing Office applications means everyone on the team is able to quickly begin using SharePoint; the Office integration only gets better with the latest version of Office 2010. It wasn’t long before we started to see the other benefits of SharePoint and have now started to integrate it with custom applications like our public website. Enquiries from the web are added to a SharePoint task list and now everyone knows who is assigned to an enquiry and what the status of that enquiry is instantly through automatic notifications, which are built in to SharePoint.

We have saved time, money and we don’t have all the problems of the past in managing our collaboration and on top of that we have added some extra benefits. SharePoint copes well with new technologies and the ever changing IT world and we can see it growing well with our business and partners in the future.
