PENTLAND - TRAINING YOUR WAY | JULY 2010 Issue:1
Welcome to the latest edition of the Pentland Newsletter.
You'll notice the format of this has changed as we have recently undergone a full overhaul of our branding and web-site. Over the years, positive feedback from our customers has remained constant - and all talk about how Pentland is unique, not only in terms of what we offer, but also in terms of how we offer it.
We are not a large faceless organisation where you can choose a myriad of courses from a drop down list. Our approach is tailored, personalised - and all about you - hence our new tag-line - 'Training Your Way'. Please take a look around the newly designed site - I'd love to hear your feedback.
This edition of Pentland's newsletter is focused on Project Management - the benefits of getting it right and the downfalls of getting it wrong. Someone who has experienced the stresses of Project Management is Claire Young of Apprentice Fame - who has given her top suggestions for how to make project management work for you.
Please forward this newsletter on to anyone you feel may be interested in keeping up to date with the team here at Pentland. We look forward to welcoming you on a course soon.

Claire Young - Finalist on BBC's 'The Apprentice'
"Project Management took on a whole new meaning to me when I was part of the BBC television series 'The Apprentice'. To be working in such a pressure cooker environment really sorts out the men from the boys. There is undoubtedly a lot of thinking on your feet in that kind of situation, but those of us who had previous experience of project management skills and processes were undoubtedly the better leaders. There are always going to be people in your teams who you don't necessarily see eye-to-eye with, and projects that you would prefer not to be involved in - but as a professional, if you have the right tools at your disposal you will always stay streets ahead of the rest".

Dave Orme in the hot seat...
What was the first training course you ever ran?
My first training course - I was literally 'in at the deep end'. I worked for a training company in The Midlands, and my remit was to deliver the training programme that had been set up for NatWest bank. Day one in my new post was on site in London and I was given a crash introduction to the training materials by the previous temporary trainer.
After a two day handover it was all mine. I delivered a ten day “Structured Systems Analysis” course and the all things considered the reviews were pretty good!
